how to size pilates grip socks (and why two sizes is enough)
one chart, one rule, two tells.
the chart
| size | US women's shoe size |
|---|---|
| S/M | 5 – 8 |
| L/XL | 8.5 – 12 |
that's gimme's chart. between sizes? size up. the cuff holds without squeezing, so the larger size still stays put and you get the extra room in the toe box.
why two sizes works
a grip sock has one job on the reformer: stay exactly where your foot is. that's the cuff and the stretch, not the length. a sock that's a touch long with a cuff that holds is fine; a sock that's the "right" length with a cuff that gives up slides and bunches under the footbar. two sizes with real stretch cover most feet; brands that run three or four sizes are covering the same ground with more decisions.
how to tell a pair is the wrong size
- heel creeping toward the arch in footwork: too small, or the cuff isn't holding.
- fabric folding under the ball of the foot on the bar: too big. the grip only works where fabric is flat on skin.
if neither happens by the end of the footwork series, the size is right.
